I was very happy, when I heard I had won a La Sardina at the “Telefonbuch” competition. Unfortunately I don’t like white very much, so I planned to refurbish my Sardine cam to have an individual camera (that it looks similar to the Maps Edition was by accident ;D)
Before:
After:
What you need for the La Sardina-makeover:
- A La Sardina ;D
- Pen & paper
- Scissors
- Glue (all-purpose glue works best)
- Books, magazines, photos, whatever you want to stick on your camera
- Clear coat & brush (I used laquer which is used for napkin decoupage)
- One afternoon with spare time
First of all I made patterns, so the maps fit perfectly on my camera. For this I used a sheet of paper, placed it on my La Sardina and Fritz the Blitz and retraced the edges. After doing this for all sides I cut it out and tested if it fits on my camera. Maybe you have to correct it a little bit, especially near the knobs and the flash adapter.
Afterwards I searched for suitable maps. I used a book about seafaring. You just have to use your patterns and retrace them and then cut it out.
Following I clued everything with all-purpose glue and pressed it tightly against the camera.
Last I painted everything with several layers of clear coat. Between the layers I allowed everything to dry.
That’s it. It only takes you one afternoon. It’s a perfect activity for cold, stormy autumn days and while the coat dries, there’s enough time for tea and cookies. ;)
