If you're tired of the looks of your camera, or the pieces of old leather are just peeling off, here's how to refurbish a camera.
I found this Kiev 4 on a flea market last year. It looked rather shitty because of the fake leather that was peeling off, but after testing the mechanisms I knew this would become my new friend. And loved ones, you gotta take care of them! So I made my Kiev a new suit!
Always treasuring rubbish sure paid off, because I still had some samples of wallpaper lying around that I took from the DIYstore. They’re perfect for using as new lining, because they’re sturdy and they come in all kinds of prints and patterns. I decided to go for red fake snake leather.
Wanna try?
What you need:
- A camera that has or used to have (fake) leather lining
- wallpaper
- superglue
- stanley knife
- ruler (don’t use a plastic one, you’ll cut pieces off!)
- a steady hand
First off, peel away all the old leather and remaining glue.
And there you have a totally stripped Kiev :)
Try to keep the leather intact, so you can cut new pieces by their example.
Glue all the new pieces on, and use the stanley knife to push the edges. Here’s the result, isn’t it awesome?
I’m super happy with the colourscheme, and it goes very well with my autumncolour-outfit :)
I’m looking forward to seeing your own creations!
