Furry Models and Various Animals Can Also Look Awesome!

Everytime I get a new camera or I want to try a new film, I take pictures with my pets. They are my new models. Taking portraits of people is not so easy, but I think, it's easier with pets and animals. Find out why after the jump!

Pets and other animals are more natural, they don’t move their face if you take a picture of them. Different than People, they hold her hand in front of the camera and and move her mouth to a unnatural big smile. If that sounds familiar to you, chance your Model and try it with animals.

How close can you go?

Try your camera: How close can you go to your lovely pet? For this picture I went very close to my cat, before I took a shot. Before I could press the shutter button completely down, my cat moved even closer. The result was this picture, taken with my Diana Mini. I never thought that the picture would turn out so good.

With pets and animals you could perfect do experiments, also crazy stuff. But, please don’t hurt the animals! Keep your fantasy within limits.

Double and Multiple Exposures

If you want to do really crazy stuff with animals you can use double and multiple exposures. Maybe you want your cat flying in the sky? No problem, you can do it!

Potential animals to take photos of:

Cats

Many people say cats are the most popular animals after dogs, so it will be easy to find a cat. Maybe you have your own cat, or somewhere around you has one. But if nobody wants to give you a cat, just walk around your neighborhood and search for a feline model that you can photograph.

Because I have three beautiful cats, I take a lot of pictures of them.

If you have a model cat that you don’t know, take a picture when it doesn’t feel observed. Maybe even when it’s busy and don’t feel that you’re trying to take a picture of it.

For example, when it is sleeping or eating. Of your own cat you can take pictures every time, as it trusts you. When you call its name, it will come to you, and then, you just need to press the shutter. You will have a nice picture!

Rabbits and Bunnies

With these animals you have to expect that they move really fast. So you have to be fast in pressing the shutter. If you take pictures outside the cage, watch out, make sure it does not run away!

Cows

Because I live in a very rural countryside of Bavaria, there are cows everywhere. So, I don´t have to search for them. I think cows are really cool, with their long tongue and there big nose. They were also often my models.

Horses

Depending where you live, it’s easier for you to find horses. Taking pictures of horses is not so easy, because they are on a big field and they don’t come to every visitor. But when you make some noise with your mouth, they come closer and you can take pictures.

Zoo

When you go to the Zoo you have the chance to take pictures of various animals, especially the exotic ones. When you take pictures of animals behind glass, push your lens to the window, so there won’t be reflections. Have patience: Often the animals are far away, so you have to wait for some time until they come closer.

When you can finally see the animal and it’s near enough, be fast and press the shutter!

Insects and snails

You can find them in every garden. An easy rule is: be fast and get close! As for snails, you can always take your time..

I hope you find these tips useful and I was able to show you some new things. I wish you a lot of fun with taking pictures of animals!
