Have you ever tried to write an article for Lomography but are too afraid you won't know how to format it properly? Do you feel like your articles lack that certain umpf the others have? Fear not, for this handy guide should answer all your questions...
First and foremost, let’s talk about textiles! No, I don’t mean like clothing, I am talking about making things bold and italic . If you want to use bold just put the text in asterixes like *this text that will appear in bold*, this will result in this text that will appear in bold. For italic, just put it between underscores like _this short text_, this will result in this short text.
All of those pretty links to my LomoHome, how do I make them active? Making a link is similarly easy, let’s say you’ve written a text on Lomography and want to link this to the website, then simply use this code "Lomography":http://www.lomography.com – it’s the linked word in quotes followed by a colon and the link itself, this will result in this: Lomography.
All these items, and no way to organize them… What to do? You can also make lists (like if you want to write down a recipe).
* 5 eggs
* 1 litre of milk
* 1 tablespoon sugar
This will result in a list:
- 5 eggs
- 1 litre of milk
- 1 tablespoon sugar
Replacing the asterix with a # will make the list numbered.
- 5 eggs
- 1 litre of milk
- 1 tablespoon sugar
Sometimes you might wanna use headlines between multiple paragraphs – you can do so by using h2. Some Headline – it will look like this:
Remember all articles must be illustrated with a good number of hallucinating photos that leave us wide eyed. How to upload? From your computer: if you have the photos in your hard drive you may upload them from the backend with the “Browse and upload” button. Each photo will have a number code with which you’ll be able to insert it in the article writing → [Asset:XXXXX]. Remember you may set only one photo or make a gallery with a few more photos → [Asset:XXXXX,XXXXX,XXXXX]. IMPORTANT: don’t leave space between the comas and numbers. If you want to write a quote beneath de photo you must write in the following line, right after [Asset:XXXXX,XXXXX,XXXXX] without leaving any space.
From the Lomography website: if you want to upload a photo that is in the website you must copy the photo’s number which appears at the end of the url address and insert it this way → [Photo:XXXXX]. If you want to make a photo gallery from the web, you must write Photos in plural and write the numbers of the photos you want to display → [Photos:XXXXX,XXXXX,XXXXX]. IMPORTANT: don’t leave any space between comas and numbers. The photos quote, when uploaded this way, is automatically generated and cites the authors of the selected photos. I suggest this method when you want to use photos from other users, that way you’ll always cite them and there won’t be any confusion on the owner of the photos.
The LomoKino is all the rage, and now you can upload videos to your heart’s content, but how you ask? All you have to write is [Movie:number-of-video] if you want to add a video from your lomohome or [Movie:and-the-link-of-the-video-from-youtube-or-vimeo] if you want to add a video from Youtube or Vimeo.
Now on to the substance of your articles, follow the guidelines below:
- Title: The title must be specific. (Example, especially for Requested Posts: “Double Your Pleasure with the Lomography X-Pro Slide 200” instead of just “Double Your Pleasure”).
- Summary: The summary must answer the basic who, where, what, why, and when questions in a maximum of 40 words or 2 – 3 sentences. It should be different from the article body.
- Questions and exclamations: Careful here! Remember to always close exclamation marks properly.
- Punctuation: Please don’t forget that after a coma or a period we must ALWAYS leave a space.
- Remember, we want articles that are original, fun, creative, interesting. Quality, people!
