Here's a fun idea for easy bokeh! Dust off that hat and take it out for a lomowalk.
This idea hit me one day when I was lying down outside with my hat over my face. I was tired and trying to block out the bright sun, when I noticed that I could see little dots of light through my hat. It looked like tiny bokeh! I ran home up the stairs and grabbed my trusty LC-Wide to try my idea.
For this, you’ll need:
- A hat that light can penetrate
- Your camera, preferably one with double exposure
- Film (I’ve found that Kodak 200 works quite well)
That’s it! I used this tipster without having to go through the whole roll and rewinding. I didn’t want bokeh all over my film, but if that’s your cup of tea, go right ahead! This tipster gives you the perfect amount of bokeh without having to wait until night time!
1. Take your camera and set it to infinity and take your first shot through the hat. For brighter bokeh, you can point it towards the sky, or even the sun!
(The bokeh should come out in a nice circular formation!)
2. Take the second shot over that one of anything you like, and that’s about it!
Beanies work as well! Consequently, the holes are bigger, resulting in less bokeh but has a cool effect as well.
The closer you press the camera to the hat, the bigger your bokeh will be.
And vice versa, the farther you pull it out of the hat, the smaller the bokeh will be.
