Adapter for the Diana Viewfinder

Adapter for the Diana viewfinder (with a 35mm back)

Yes, I’m very clumsy! I put the "Diana+ 35mm Back:http://shop.lomography.com/diana-35mm-back on my Diana, I look through the viewfinder and I’m not very good at calculating what part of what I’m looking at will actually come out in the photo. Result: mass decapitation.

After giving it a lot of thought, I came up with a little adapter for the viewfinder.

You’ll need:

  • Black card.
  • Scissors.
  • Tape measure.
  • Sticky tape.

I thought:
- If the Diana’s viewfinder is designed for a 52 × 52mm format and measures 1,6 × 1,6 cm…. if we change this format to one of the four options that the 35mm back gives us with it’s masks, then we’ll also have to change the viewfinder. So:
1) 24 × 36 standard rectangular image without perforations:
52mm——————-1,6cm
24mm——————- x
36mm——————- x
The viewfinder adapted to a measurement of 24 × 36mm would be 0,7 × 1,1 cm.
2) 33 × 34mm would need a viewfinder of 1 × 1 cm.
3) 24 × 48mm would need a viewfinder 0,7 × 1,4 cm.
4) 33 × 48mm would correspond to a viewfinder of 1 × 1,4 cm.

So get to work, cut out your four new viewfinders

…and get Lomographing!!!!

You can finally use 35mm film with your Diana F+ camera with the "Diana+ 35mm Back:http://shop.lomography.com/diana-35mm-back! This unique accessory allows you to shoot ALL types of 35mm film, and you can have four different image formats, including panoramas and sprockets! Get your own Diana+ 35mm Back now.

Great idea! I've done a similar thing and stuck the mask on to the bottom bit of the viewfinder adapter that comes with the different lenses. I only tend to shot with the square 36x36 mask in and can't say i worked out the exact ratios, but it really helps with decapitations.
