If you're anything like me, your Diana Mini lens cap is long gone. But have no fear! There's a simple and quick solution - make your own mini lens cap out of things you already have laying around the house!
So, the inevitable has happened — your poor Diana Mini lens cap has slipped off; perhaps into the street, a gutter, a restaurant bathroom. You retrace your steps with no luck. Try as you might to be prepared for the worst, sometimes these things just sneak up on you.
Sure, you could always contact customer service to try and get a replacement. But if your little Mini is naked, cold, and embarrassed (or you just need a quick fix ASAP!) there is a way to right the wrongs of the universe and make your very own DIY Diana Mini lens cap! This easy project only takes about 10 minutes, and you most likely already have all the supplies you need just laying around!
What you will need:
- Exacto knife or scissors
- Scotch mounting squares (or a piece of cardboard and double-sided tape or glue)
- Plastic 35 mm film container lid
First, use the exacto knife or scissors to cut off the outer rim of the plastic container cap.
For a cleaner outcome, cut as close to the edge of the outer rim as possible and very carefully use your exacto knife to slice the remaining edge down to size.
Next, cut a tiny piece of your scotch mounting square and apply one side to the inner rim of the film container lid. Cut one more, tinier piece of the scotch mounting square and apply to the opposite side of the inner rim of your lid. Be sure that if you are using a scotch mounting square, that you only remove the outer paper from one side of the square so that both sides are not adhesive, causing your new lens cap to stick to your Mini. (If using cardboard, simply apply glue or double-sided tape to one side of the cardboard and firmly press onto inner rim of container lid. Depending on the thickness of the cardboard, you may need to apply another tiny piece to the opposite side of the inner rim of the container lid in order to keep your new lens cap snug.)
Now your little lens cap is ready to go!
Get creative and decorate it with permanent markers or glue some shiny rhinestones on it and impress your friends. Your beloved Diana Mini lens will never be without proper protection again!
