Quickie Tipster: Diana Mini Nightime

Using a bigger aperture and closer focus for bokeh effect in night photography. Next time you are out galavanting at night with your Diana Mini, stop using the flash, and decide to engage in some nightime photography while also trying to have some fun with the focus and depth of field effect (bokeh).

  • Set your shutter speed on B for long exposures.
  • Set your aperture on “cloudy” (which gives the camera a bigger aperture).
  • Set your lens focus on 0.6M, or 1-2M.
  • Put your little camera on the ground and take the pic, pressing the shutter down for 6 to 10 seconds.

The result is a cool nightime photo with the bokeh and near focus effect, Diana Mini style.

I shoot with a 100 iso films and all be ok. Just use exposure, around 20-40 sec. Better to use a tripod.

I'm surprised this came out so well with 200 iso. I always use 400 at least for night snaps and around 10 seconds seems to work for that. I don't really like flashes, so i don't have one for my Diana Mini.
