Tucked on the ground floor of Burlington Square, a few blocks away from the bustling Queen's Street, is the Triple D Minilab run by Mr Mike Chia. Mr Chia, or Uncle Mike as he is affectionately known to most Lomographers, runs the minilab with his lovely wife and teenage children.
When one goes into Triple D for the first time, one will be greeted by a genuine smile from Uncle Mike. The smile puts one at ease and less afraid to ask “stupid” questions, especially if one is new to Lomography. One thing that sets Triple D apart from other photo labs is its distinctive “Lomo-ness”. There are 2 Lomo walls in the minilab, reminiscent of Lomo Gallery Store elsewhere. One wall consists of photos contributed by members of a local Lomo forum, Lomotion. The other wall contains photos from the first Holga Singapore Tour, held sometime last year.
Uncle Mike is always on hand to offer advice to newbie Lomographers, patiently answering questions such as: what is the difference between negatives and slides, why did my roll came out blank etc. With the advice given, one can improve and hopefully, something will come out in the next roll.
Triple D sells a wide variety of films, ranging from fresh slides to expired negatives, in 35mm and 120 format. Value added service includes having a photo album that shows one the indicative effect and results of each film after developing. This enables customers to make an informed decision and purchase films that match their creative aspirations.
Last but not least, processing and scanning fees at Triple D are reasonably priced. This enables me to save more $ and shoot more. Therefore, if you happen to come to Singapore and need to process your films, do give Triple D a try.
All photos below are developed by Triple D and self scanned by me using Epson V500.
