Masking with Diana F+

A tipster regarding acetate masking with your beloved Diana F+

I’ve never been good with words and since this is my first article I’ll try and keep this short. This is not something new; in fact the idea of using an acetate mask happened after reading bleach4bleach’s article. I’ve always been fascinated with experimentation therefore I found it extremely hard to stop.

The size of the acetate mask is roughly the same as the small frame inside the Diana. I stuck the bottom side on the frame and the rest just slid it in the thin slot on top. Try and keep the edges exactly the same size as the frame otherwise the advancing film may pull it off.

In the latest case, the skull design belongs to a true master, formally known as Leonardo da Vinci. In order to align my face with the design, I measured it by using the macro focusing technique and simply placed the Diana on the tripod, without the back, and by using a flashlight, I projected the skull on my wall. That way, I had a rough idea where the X and Y axis of the face were on which the eyes and nose moved.

However, you don’t have to be that precise. Just place the acetate mask with a design you like and just shoot away.

Your pictures are always better when governed by chaos and disorder.

That's funny that you picked the exact same quote that I used for one of my first mask experiments. Though my results were disaster.

@Satomi really?? Thats creepy cause my dad always used to tell me something along those lines. Although he used to use the word entropy as well :)
