Who hasn't been amazed by seeing someone, either on the site or in real life, with a modded camera ? I know I have... Telling myself: "aw man, that looks so cool, I wish my Diana were more original than it already is!" Well here's a little something that I hope, will give some of you the motivation needed to MIY: Mod It Yourself !
First I had to choose, which camera I wanted to mod. Easy pick: in my opinion, the easiest mutable lomo camera, the Diana F+.
I didn’t go for something too hard to do, I’m on vacation and didn’t want to pull my hair out, trying to figure out what cool mod i could do. I did have in mind at first an R2D2 mod (but that implied buying extra parts to add to the camera). So i just went for a simple Pokemon paintjob.
The Diana F+ is a plastic camera, so you don’t want to use any Graffiti spray paint on it. Acrylic paint is the way to go. Plus you get to paint old school with a paint brush, instead of just spraying on a cap.
The coolest part ? You can paint whatever you like on your favorite camera ! I chose Pikachu. My favorite pokemon. Come on… he freaking shoots lightning blots out of his cheeks and body!
Pikachu is definitly a winner !
Usefull things to remember:
1. clean you camera first, dust and paint don’t mix well
2. be sure to tape any part that you don’t want paint to get on (or remove em if possible)
3. take the time to do a draft of your masterpiece, you can even outline your draft with a crayon
4. HAVE FUN painting your camera, I know I did !
Voila, hope you enjoyed reading this as much as I did typing it.
Lomolove on people !
