Less Red Redscale

If you like the colors of expired film but your fridge is filled with film that expires in some years, you'll like this very simple tip.

If you are the proud owner of an automatic camera like the Lomo LC-A+ or the Olympus XA or any camera that allows you to set the asa and that changes the exposure time varies automatically, you can manage how much red your redscale pictures will become. It´s so simple like overexpose the film 3 stops or more. I discovered this because I was using Velvia 50F and I forgot to set the asa value when I changed the film. In the example shot was used Fuji superia 400 @ 50 iso and Agfa Vista 200 @50.

As you can see as the film advances I realized my mistake, so I decided to keep varying the asa value at random – following my Lomographic spirit – and taking note of what value was set for all the shots. Because of my lack of money the developing process was made pretty normally: the 400 asa film developed at 400 and the 200 asa film at 200. The eyes of the lady at the lab while gave me the printed pictures told me everything: my experiment was a complete succes! The result was some pictures with superb vintage look, others with expired film look and even some close to redscale shots, all in the same roll of film!

    This is great. The shots came out looking really good. I need to try this on my next roll. I really like picture #7. Nice colors and the faded old blues. about the photo labs.... I love how I have to explain to them that I WANT my photos to look the way they do. I had a lady at the lab take forever to develop my film because she was trying to figure out how to fix the colors on my prints. I had to explain that they would be crazy because I used a lomography colorflash. LOL. I have had to teach myself that not everyone will GET lomography.

    @gnarlyleech hahahahaha the first times i went to the photo lab I always have to say "don't correct the colors, please. And also I want the prints of my double exposed pictures!" But now she knows me and the speech is unnecessary.

    Nice article and nice pics! My redscales with my Diana Mini came sooo dark I...
    @gnarlyleech, @kutshie thst's why I decided buying a scanner and scan the negs myself! I'm just fed up with these people at labs saying: "what kind of photos are these? If you call it photos". They're really rude around here :(

    @mochilis The scanner is the best way to get your lomos but I rather to get them printed anyway :)

    @breakphreak I have tried some slide redscale in a swap with my girlfriend, you can see them in my home

    @iaki Gracias!

    Nice article. I purchased the multi iso redcale recently and am waiting to test it out in my Lubitel 166+ next month in Zanzibar. I can only hope the results are as nice as yours. :) I love photo #7 too.
