Have you ever seen sun looking like big shiny star? No? Ever been on a scenario where the night sky becomes overcast just when you've planned on learning the zodiac constellations, yeah? Frustrating isn't it? Well for this week, we got something very special that will certainly have you catching and shooting stars in no time!
Star light effect by dogma
There are couple ways on building a star light effect filter, but I will tell you the easiest!
For this tip you will need:
- sharp knife
- piece of CLEAN glass or CLEAN transparent plastic (brand new CD case could work for that) and it should be same size or a bit greater then your camera lens front
- ruler
- duct tape.
How to:
1. Take a plastic piece and using ruler and knife scratch the surface of the plastic by making parallel lines. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT: Don’t cut it, just scratch it a little bit. Distance between the lines should be about 2mm and lines should last over all size of plastic (It should be long enough to cover your lens).
2. Turn the plastic sheet 90 degrees and start making new lines, these lines will be perpendicular to the first lines
3. After that, you will need to make some more lines which should go criss-cross through the ones you’ve made earlier. You should have a piece of plastic with a nice grid/pattern afterwards. If the grid looks not perfect, don’t worry it will work anyway.
4. Now all you have to do is put this filter in front of your camera and start shooting. If you will take pictures of the sun it will turn into a big star. If you will go for a night hunting, my recommendation would be to stick filter to your camera with a duct tape instead of holding it.
Happy shooting! :D

I love this effect and I love these pictures! Another easy way of getting a star filter effect is by simply holding a piece of shiny metal screen in front of the lens :)

Really cool tipster. I especially like tipsters like this where you don't have to use up a whole roll of film on it if you don't want to. Just hold it in front of the lens. Great work and wonderful gallery.
lomoblood
ahh, i have a question, when you put the filter in front of your lens, which side should be facing out, the side you cut with the knife or the smooth uncut side?
eva_eva
Clever!! XD
dogma
@lomoblood i think it's not matter which side you gone use, i should work on both sides ;)

@hailkingstewie well at first i discovered this http://www.lomograph(…)ture-shapes that gave me some thoughts and then i read the amazing book released in 1936 in Lithuania ("Everyone can shoot") There was some tips how people in that time used to make variuos filters and other stuff :)

Oh like i said there are some other ways to make astar filter. You can use a scrub paper and gently scratch plastic or glass piece by making circles, try it out ;)
