Most of us use a variety of cameras and different films in order to actualise whatever that is we have perceived or, at most times, to surprise ourselves. Intentional or not, either way, it doesn’t matter because there is love in analogue! – And this is what our Tipster has to share with us this week!
Is The Paper Ruined Or Flavored? by satomi
Very easy tip on experimental printing at home!
Life could be so different depends on your views toward every little thing. Do you consider yourself positive or negative? Is the glass half empty, or half full? Like anarchy mentioned once in his interview – do you work to live, or do you live to work?
Same exact situation could turn good or bad, depending on your attitude. When my lace leggings (I have so many!) get holes, my mom would say, “Now it’s ruined, so you can’t wear them anymore.” but I would say “Well, now, it’s got a character!”
With all that in mind, let me ask you a question. Let’s say, you spilled coffee on your photo paper- Do you say, the paper is ruined, or flavored?
Here’s my suggestion- If you spilled coffee on your photo paper, don’t throw it away, but dip it all in coffee instead! I have tried this with my Canon matte paper which cost me only about 10 USD for 50 sheets at a regular office supply store. Who says cheap papers cannot produce good prints? All they need is a little love from you, and they will open up a whole new world you have never seen before!
After you dip your photo paper into coffee, let it dry for a day and make sure the paper dries flat. You may choose to make the coffee darker or lighter, depending on how brown you want the paper to turn. When “flavoring” your photo paper, don’t worry about the stains- they will all give it a different character to each of your papers!
If you want the feeling of the pictures that was enclosed in the lost letter during the WWII, try black and white. If you want the pictures to have a retro look from the 60’s, then go color! When choosing color images to print, try reddish or yellowish images for better results.
So now, before I let you go, let me ask you again. Is the paper ruined, or flavored? I’ll let you be the one who decide!

OK, I'd say it's obviously not ruined 'cos you printed some great shots! But I can't say it's flavored unless someone eats it! So I'll just call it cool! Very awesome tipster!
