Spool Your Film Wrong

When I developed my first roll of black and white film at home, I didn’t actually practice spooling the negative roll first, so I ended up scrunching it onto the spool in the dark, without realizing that its supposed to go in smoothly.
So in goes all the chemicals…and out comes this disastrous set of photos, ‘ruined’ from the negs sticking to each other during development. There were splotches of chemical soup all over the roll.
But when I scanned them I was really happy with the result! Its totally lo-fi…poor light to begin with, expired film, not knowing how to do something but doing it anyway, scratch marks, blotches, and then the most psyched out shots come out.
So, my tip is, jump head first into black and white home-developing. Its much cheaper than getting it done in a lab, and once you get the chemicals right, the rest is blind fun.
