Another way to put in some crazy texture on your film!

I guess you could see this as a follow on from tips by newepug and oldskool_rider but this one’s different in that it’s even more destructive and in addition to a changing bag (or darkroom if you’ve got access) requires only any sharp instrument.

Simply unroll your fresh film in your changing bag and scratch in whatever message you like, be it poetic or not. I used the lyrics from Tom Waits’ tune “Down in the Hole” – it’s also the theme song to “The Wire” with which I’ve recently become obsessed…

The only thing to really think about with this one is the orientation of your writing – I just did it willy-nilly and the writing came out upside-down in relation to the photos. But oh well – I was still happy with the results, and you can always just turn the photos upside-down with your computer, as I’ve done with a few here. Next time I’d like to try some simple drawings that wouldn’t be affected by the orientation.

To add to the shambolic nature of the technique I used expired film and scratched part of it up with sandpaper!

I love the results!! But I've got a question: Did you get the film developed by yourself or would any laboratory do it for you without saying "Your film was totally screwd!!"? 'Cause I would like to try this but don't have a lab at home.
