Bahay Kubo, Dagupan

2 comments and 1 voteA Bahay Kubo is a Traditional Filipino house possibly from the Spanish word “Cubo” or cube . My aunt had one made as a quick get away from troubles in the city. With the exception of a few concrete bases the entire construction is of dry straw and the ever dependable bamboo. But don’t let this pre-Hispanic form of architecture fool you. These traditional houses were perfectly suited to a country frequented by typhoons and earthquakes. They are normally elevated from the ground and the materials that are used could easily be gathered and used to rebuild the house just in case the forces of nature prove to be a handful.

3 comments and 1 voteI remember going to Tagaytay as a child on weekends. How my Mom and Pop would bring me there for stargazing, horseback riding, camping or just to enjoy the crisp cold air that’s a luxury in a tropical country. The hills of Tagaytay are situated approximately 45 minutes from Manila. Couples, Friends and Families usually trek to the place for a quick weekend escape from the trappings of the city.
