Aloha everyone! I've seen daytime redscale photos a million times in contrast to the extremely rare nighttime ones. But I'm sure that they exist and I'm not the only one who came to the idea of nighttime redscale shooting. Even in Vkontakte Lomography group I've discovered hardly 5 or 6 ones.

Perhaps it's a bit strange to visit a cemetery on a holiday, but after two days of busy Kiev, a day trip to Chernobyl and Pripyat, and lots of enthusiastic people who kept offering us vodka, s0y and I needed some silence. And this monumental cemetery gave us exactly what we needed, and more.

September 2011, Marije (s0y) and I finally took the trip we wanted to do for so long, visit Ukraine, Kiev and in particular, the 30km exclusion zone around Chernobyl, with the ghost town of Prypiat. When I saw the bumper carts, I almost cried. Afterwards, we were exhausted; there was so much to take in. And bringing too many cameras is never a good idea. ;)

Most people think that Ukraine came from Russia, but it's actually the other way around. Kievan Rus was founded around 880 AD, and was an early predecessor of Ukraine, Russia, and Belarus. So people have been living in that particular spot for over 1200 years! It's incredible when you think about it. I just love Kiev, it is the capital and has a population of 4 million people.

Situated at the northern end of Khreschatyk, Kiev’s Independence Square received global media attention in 2004 as the focal point of Ukraine’s Orange Revolution. Orange-clad demonstrators gathered in the Independence Square in Kiev during November, 2004. On some days, the number of protesters in the center of Kiev reached hundreds of thousands (one million by some estimates). Today, things have calmed down a little and the tented city that sprung up overnight has long gone. Independence Square, however, is still the city’s most popular spot for meetings, late night drinking and people watching.

When I received my Kiev 4 camera, I was happy like a child to hold in my hands such a beautiful Russian camera. Well, Russian it is, even if it's well known that the Kiev cameras were copies of the German Contax cameras. Some like to say that these cameras are German Contax made in the USSR... But the Kiev 4 is much more than the "poor man's Contax" - it's a real stunning camera with the fantastic Jupiter 8 lens.

Suave, classy, sharp yet smooth–these fine qualities can only come from those irresistible Russian Deadstocks who keep coming back to haunt us with their presence!

A direct descendant of the famed Contax series of rangefinder cameras, the Kiev4 RF is highly-regarded for its capability to produce razor-sharp images.
