Chronicling the life of an American ex-pat in a former Soviet republic: Uzbekistan. I am a photography enthusiast originally from the San Francisco Bay area and lived in Brooklyn, NY for 7 years where my interest in film photography blossomed. My cameras of choice in NY were the Canon AE-1 and Yashica GS using several different types of film: Lomography, Fuji Superia, Kodak Tri-X, Kodak E100, etc.

A one-week trip to the Khorezm Desert and Khiva in Uzbekistan in Fall 2011. One of the nicest perks of living and working at an international school are the school-related trips that take you off the beaten path. In October, I was invited to join our Grade 7 class for their Week Without Walls adventure to Khorezm and Khiva. From Tashkent, the capital city, we boarded an overnight train for Urgench.

Now we are talking the real old school: When you talk about the United States or even Germany, we are talking about countries, which are as young as a child, who is starting to speak its first words. If we want to talk about adults and grandfather we will have to talk about the fabulous Uzbekistan and the city of Bukhara.
