There’s more to Vigan than the famed centuries-old houses, cobblestone pavements, and Spanish colonial churches. Only a ten-minute drive from this historic city is a quaint sanctuary for animals and leisure-loving people called Baluarte.

A 2-hour bus ride from Laoag City, Ilocos Norte took us to the town of preserved old Philippine houses that is Vigan City, Ilocos Sur.

This is the second part of our short Ilocos sojourn, this time we were off to a nearby city called Vigan which is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the province.

Vigan, one of the cradles of history in the Philippines, is home to the Heritage Village, the only village to be declared a UNESCO World Heritage in the country. Many centuries after the Spanish Colonial Era in the Philippines, Vigan's Heritage Village remarkably retained its charm, as if walking on its famous cobblestoned streets means stepping back in time. Every year, countless visitors, local and foreign, head to Vigan to marvel at the beauty of the town's historical jewels.

Perhaps not a lot of people visiting Vigan City in the province of Ilocos Sur are aware that at the edge of the historical town is a roaring, charming beach named after a quiet fishing village on the shores of South China Sea.

Talk about old school: VIgan City, a World Heritage Site, is one of the remaining Hispanic towns in the Philippines, and is well-known for its "cobblestone streets, and a unique architecture that fuses Philippine building design, and construction with colonial European architecture" (Wiki). Located at the west tip of Ilocos Sur, the city offers a wide range of things to do, foods to eat, and attractions to see (or take pictures of!).

3000th Location! Pagudpud and Vigan are some of the famous travel / vacation spots in Ilocos. If you wish wake up with South China Sea on your window of your hotel, Pagudpud will not disappoint you. Or you want to wake up 100 years back to past? Then it's Vigan.
