The Roman Town of Pompeii was buried when Mount Vesuvius erupted on 24th August 79 CE. It was only rediscovered in the 18th century. This exhibition at the National Museum of Singapore features 279 artifacts on loan from The Superintendence for Archaeological Heritage of Naples and Pompeii, Italy. This event runs from 16 Oct 2010 till 23 Jan 2011.

Banks Peninsula is located near Christchurch in New Zealand's south island. The place is really breathtaking with amazing landscapes of mountains encountering the sea. It has a volcanic origin that's why the landscapes over there are so amazing.

Mt. Eden Park in Auckland is made from an impressive former volcano crater and offers a great view over the whole area. It's perfectly safe to visit as it's already a dormant volcano - you can either enjoy a nice walk uphill or take a car if you're being lazy but once you get to the top, you'll quickly realize that all the effort is well worth it.

Back in 2000 with the coming of the millennium, work began on the island of La Palma in the Canary Islands. It was for the largest optical telescope in the world called the Gran Tecan. This project was sponsored by the Institute of Astrophysics of the Canary Islands and the Spanish Government which took more than seven years to be completed - and two more years to become 100 percent operational.
