During the whole of 2012 I travelled. I spent the year exploring new places, discovering Lomography on the way. But, coming home was the hardest thing. Could analogue save the day?
-
I admit it, me and my Smena 8M haven't always been best friends. I tried a couple of Smenas, each one with a different problem. But then, one decisive moment came. I went surfing to Basque country and the rest is history.

This camera has a wonderful lens, I liken it to the Olympus Trip 35. How does the rest of the camera fare? Overweight tank or heavyweight contender? Find out in this review!

The Lomo Smena Symbol is an iconic (pun intended) camera. An evolution of the Lomo Smena 8m, it is a perfect camera for novices and carefree lomogurus as well. Its T-43 40mm Triplet lens produces images that have that awesome 70s look.

Have you found one of this but you are not so convinced? Read more about it and see some photos after the jump!

I dig deep in the city each time I go for a walk with my 4-month-old son. So if you want to get to know Berlin better - mainly the "Barrios", Kreuzberg and Neukölln - read on after the jump and have a look at the gallery at the bottom.

There are three types of Smena that are readily available, the 8M, the Symbol and the 35. This comparison helps to make the choice of which one to get a little simpler.

Listening to Garbage's album "Not Your Kind of People" and thinking about the meaning of their name (garbage is trash, but the band sounds great) I got myself remembering how many times someone threw away a camera (or any analogue device) believing it was trash at the same time that, for us, it's a treasure! Definitely, they are not our kind of people!

Did you ever want to take a photo of a subject that is closer than 1m from the lens using the Smena 8M? Or did you want to make a self-portrait with your Smena 8M? I think I've got the solution for you!

A vintage Zenit 12 gets an outing with a roll of Lomography's Earl Grey. The deep blacks, bright whites, and every shade of grey in between that the film produces perfectly match the experience of shooting with the veteran Russian heavyweight.

After 25 years, my Lomo Smena Symbol gets a film through it and becomes my everyday Lomography partner.

You get your Smena 8M and suddenly you realize that they are not a peace. You feel hopeless and crazy. You feel like it's the end of the world. But not, it's not the end, because everything has a solution and here it is.

So you want to try red scale film but are having trouble to find one? No problem. Make one for yourself.

The Smena 8M was an entry-level that was produced by the Soviet Union during the early 70s and is a manual toy camera -- A great tool for amateur photographers and to those who want to start photography!

I bought my Smena on a bit of a whim and have never looked back, only forwards in amazement.

Provia 100F - along with its faster brother Provia 400X - has rapidly become one of my favourite films for colour photography, and providing I'm expecting decent light, it's rare that I'm not carrying at least one roll of it in my bag.

This is my first attempt using a slide film that is slower than iso100. I had always heard that slow films should be used for landscape shots, therefore I decided to give it a try!
