My love affair with instant film began right when I got my first Lomo camera: the classic Lomo LC-A. It was beautiful, sturdy, and it came with an instant back. I fell in love. Despite wanting to start using up some rolls right away, the first thing I ever did with my LC-A was putting its instant back on and shooting through a whole cartridge. Just recently, I acquired a Fuji Instax 100, to join the family.

After Polaroid, Fuji Instax has been an industry standard instant film for over 20 years. This integral film comes in cartridges of ten exposures and is more consistant, simpler and sharper than Impossible Project's offerings. The Midnight Pen-pal is the title of film-maker Emmaalouise Smith's anticipated short film due to be screened as part of 2012's London Short Film Festival. The film, shot on a mix-medium palette includes moving image film, and photographic stills amongst an all-analogue production which tells the story of a girl and her best friend; her typewriter.

The only thing worrying me 36 weeks and 2 days into my pregnancy is the thought of going through with it all and having no evidence; whether it be paper, print or image, to then be able to hold as a token of my time preparing for a time that is likely to only happen once or twice in my lifetime.
