  • Staff Picks: Angela the Marketing and PR Pro of Lomography USA!

Staff Picks: Angela the Marketing and PR Pro of Lomography USA!

Lomography is a fun and dynamic company that loves to hold events and collaborations with communities and other companies. Today’s staff pick is someone who’s very involved in these events and she’s one of the people responsible for spreading the joy and wonder of Lomography to other people. Let’s hear what she has to say.

    Name: Angela Bilog

    LomoHome: angelab_log

What you do at Lomography: I’m the Chief of Marketing and PR at Lomography USA. I help coordinate the fun collaborations and events we do in the U.S., and am always looking for new ways to bring Lomography to life for our community and anyone new to what we do. The other half of my job is making sure these collaborations, events and all our new products are featured in the magazines, newspapers and websites you read, so everyone is kept up to date and excited about what we’re doing!

Interests: I’m all about learning as much as I can about almost anything and everything. Some items that top the list: traveling, foreign languages, photography, writing, a good book, breakfast food, bikram yoga, playing with other people’s dogs, pretentious cocktails with whiskey, roaming through parks, NYC history, Curb Your Enthusiasm, etc.

Which Lomography product would you recommend to readers? The Lomo LC-A+! The Sprocket Rocket takes second place.

Why? As someone getting back into the groove of analog photography, the LC-A+ has produced the most reliable results so far. I love pairing it with some slide film and cross processing it since I’m a fan of those delicious, saturated, funky blue hues. Whether it’s a quick shot of everyday moments like someone about to bite into their sandwich or taking a few more seconds to capturing a beautiful view of the city, the photos from the Lomo LC-A+ are very charming. Plus, it doesn’t take up too much room in my bag!

Photo: Unfortunately I don’t remember the Lomography film, but this was taken with the Lomo LC-A+. I’m wearing one of my favorite shirts and about to dig into one of my favorite dishes (ramen) at one of my favorite spots in NYC, Menkui-Tei. I also love the vignetting that came out in this photo.

Your message to Lomographers: Lomography is really for anyone—kids, professional photographers, your mom. As I only recently started trying to get seriously better at photography, combined with living in the sometimes overwhelming city of NYC, the best advice I try to follow at least in the beginning of my Lomography journey is to be a little more patient. Before taking a shot, take a few seconds to double check (or play around) with the settings, light, composition, etc. But it’s equally important to not be self-conscious, so shoot spontaneously when you feel like it. More often than not I find that a blurry, out of focus photo I’m initially not a fan of may be later “liked” by another Lomographer! So, just keep shooting and have fun. Very few things in life get me as giddy as when I receive that unopened envelope of prints!

Spontaneity is the key! Thanks, Angela for your time and your advice to our other Lomographers out there. My, my, the LC-A+ has been getting a lot of good reviews from our staff members. For all you Lomographers who haven’t tried out this awesome little compact camera, we suggest you get one from the Online Shop and let the storm of sensational shot begin!

  • Lomography Q&A: Proper Shooting with Your La Sardina

Lomography Q&A: Proper Shooting with Your La Sardina

Hello friends and fellow analogue lovers! Today we’ll be answering one of the most frequent camera concerns: shooting with the La Sardina. If you have any other questions, just let us know and we’ll respond here for the benefit of everyone! :)

    Q. Hello, Lomography! I bought a La Sardina & Flash Coyote from your Online Shop and was really excited to take cool photos with it. I shot two rolls of color slide films but they came out black! Can you help me out please? Thanks!

    A. Hi! First of all, congratulations on your purchase of the La Sardina! It’s one of the most popular cameras in our roster and we’re glad you are thrilled to use it.

Don’t think something has gone terribly wrong with your camera! With your excitement you probably forgot one of the most important things about the La Sardina Camera – you have to twist and pull the lens before you shoot. With the camera facing you, twist the lens counter-clockwise, pull it and twist clockwise to lock. Printed on the lens barrel you will see “only shoot if you can read me.” If you can see it, that means you have set the camera up correctly. Be careful when twisting, though, because too much force might damage the lens.

It is also possible that the lens cap was still on when you were shooting, so be sure to remove it the next time you shoot.

However, not all La Sardina cameras are like this. The La Sardina Splendour, the Beach Edition La Sardina Cameras and every La Sardina camera to be released have a fixed lens, so there’s no need to turn it anymore.

If you have done both steps above and still end up with black photos, you can always send an email to our super friendly and helpful customer service team at help@lomography.com.

    Hope this helps. :)

  • Staff Picks: Cameron the Territory Manager for the Central South/South East USA

Staff Picks: Cameron the Territory Manager for the Central South/South East USA

Hello Lomographers! Today’s installment of Staff Picks involves someone you may have run into a couple of times in the USA during Lomography events. Meet Cameron Russell from Lomo USA!

    Name: Cameron Russell

    LomoHome: Lomo-Camkage

What you do at Lomography: Territory Manager for the Central South/South East. I over see our operations from Colorado to Florida. From collaborations, music festivals, and exhibits to the Lomography Gallery Store in Austin, TX. I help get the word out about Lomography.

Interests: Travel. Food Tourism. No matter where I am, I’m always seeking out a new place to eat and amaze myself. I used to watch a lot more movies, before I got into Lomography. I watched about 2,300 from when I was 22-25. Connecting with my friends and spending quality time on porches.

Which Lomography product would you recommend to readers? The LC-A+.

Why? So many reasons jumble at the front of my mind as I start to write this. I’ve used it for over three years at it has become muscle memory, to me. I never question it and it never leaves my side. Reliable, hand and pocket friendly. Sturdy and discreet. It is my main camera, and, about 2 years ago, I got a pretty large tattoo of the camera on my arm. This camera really showed me that I was a photographer, when I had no clue.

Photo: Self Portrait done with LC-A+ and Fuji Astia 100.

Your message to Lomographers: Every picture you take is a lesson learned. Always try and take the shot. When you have a doubt, ignore it and see what happens. I am surprised more often than disappointed. Also, when in doubt, cross process.

There you have it, folks. Heed the words of someone who shows so much dedication to Lomography that he got his favorite camera tattooed on his arm. Maybe some of you still haven’t found your main camera, so why don’t you browse the Online Shop? Who knows, maybe the next camera you get your hands on will be the one to show you how much talent you’ve got hidden in there!

    What you do at Lomography:
    Retail Expansion Manager

    Interests:
Photography, fashion, music, street art, travelling

Which Lomography product would you recommend to readers?
too many to mention them all, but everyone should have a Diana F+, an LC-A+ and a Supersamler plus some Lomography X-pro Slide 200 and Lomography X Tungsten 64 film

    Why?
Diana F+ because it’s medium format, the wide range of accessories and the typical diana-look of the photos. LC-A+ because its just mandatory ;-) and the Supersampler because it creates unique photos and it’s just fun to shoot with!

Attached is a picture taken with a Lomography camera or Lomography film:
As far as i remember it was shot with an LC-A+ (so it’s a bit cropped) and it looks like Lomography X-Pro Slide 200.
It was shot during our annual executive meeting party in Vienna in autumn 2011. It was taken by Lisa Skribsky, I think.

    Your message to Lomographers:
Meet others, get inspired, travel the world… And take some pictures!

Thank you, Bastian! As you can see, he has several recommendations for us. Why don’t you check out his LomoHome and get inspired to take pictures as well as he does? For the products he recommended, you can find them all in the Online Shop!
