The LomoChrome Purple and How Its Colors Convinced Me in the End

I wasn't very impressed when the LomoChrome Purple was first released. At least not so much that I wanted to get my hands on it at once. Of course I liked some pictures but eventually, I wanted to test it and what can I say? It was love at first sight!

I think we’re all familiar with the idea of falling in love with an item once we get to try it. This happened to me with the LomoChrome Purple. I wanted to take some shots with this film at the Prater when I was in Vienna so I went to the Embassy Shop Vienna and loaded up my Diana F+. Because of the higher price of the film, I decided to use the 42 × 42 mask to get 16 exposures in one roll.

It’s really crazy how different the pictures look although they were shot on the same day. The slight changes in lighting conditions made all the difference.

I was so thrilled with the results that I ordered more rolls at the Online Shop. I loaded 35mm film on my Revue AC3s and shot lots of flower photos. It’s difficult to see how the film reacts to certain colors. All I know is that yellow turns to pink, green turns to purple and red tones get stronger. With that in mind, I went to a poppy field!

After that I learned that colors red and light pink don’t get intensified but can rather turn to apricot or orange. Furthermore, I fell in love with the doubles that’s why I’m going to shoot more doubles with my next roll. Since I didn’t want to overdo it, I shot the roll with my Pentacon Six and Biometar 80mm on ISO 80.

As expected, I was again blown away by the colors. But after shooting so many flowers, I had to shoot other stuff so I went to my hometown of Landshut with my Pentacon Six and Flektogon 50mm in tow. This time, I snapped some photos on ISO 50 and was rewarded with pastel photos while I got strong photos on ISO 100. I love this camera and film combo because I can squeeze in 13 6 × 6 pictures in one roll!

Still not convinced? Then get one and try it yourself. I already have plans for my next few rolls of LomoChrome Purple.

@pearlgirl77 Hi there did you develop the film yourself? And also looking at your results I'd say rating the film at 80-100ISO would be the sweat spot as most results I see on here people clearly rate at much higer ISO's and get very under exposed contrasty dark images. I wan't to buy some of this film but its fairly pricey considering its a fairly niche film. Looking at your results I'd definitely be up for shooting some, as a big fan of Kodak EIR and Aerochrome this is the next best thing.

@pearlgirl77 I've bagged myself 5 rolls of 35mm, will have to get shooting this summer whilst the sun is still out. So your developing in C41? I wasn't sure if this is a slide film that people cross as I don't wanna buy an E6 kit as its bloody expensive.
