Lomopedia: Ansco Pix Panorama

Our featured camera for this installment of Lomopedia is known for lo-fi panoramic shots and its clunky plastic body. It’s no other than the Ansco Pix Panorama camera. Get to know about this panoramic shooter after the cut.

The Ansco Pix Panorama is an easy choice for quick panoramic shooting. It is a no-fuss plastic toy camera produced by Ansco. Most of the Pix Panoramas were made in China. Its well-known box type body is larger than the usual 35mm toy cameras.

One thing that made the Ansco Pix Panorama an easy camera to shoot with is its all-out fixed features. Focus, aperture, shutter speed, focal length – almost everything on the camera is fixed except the lens cover. This didn’t hinder the Pix Panorama from taking lo-fi images with signature analogue effects like soft-focusing and vignettes.

The 28mm lens is ideal for panoramic shots. Simplicity is the name of the game with the Ansco Pix Panorama. The easy to disassemble body also gives room for modifications like lens flipping and removal of the panorama and viewfinder mask.

Usual 24×36 mm shots are reduced to 13×36 mm images with the panorama mask. This in turn leads to film labs to enlarge the images, thus resulting in grainier images. It has also been sold in the market as the Halina Panorama.

Do you know? This panorama function is carried in almost all Japanese compact cameras.
