Lomopedia: Yashica T4

A 35mm compact camera that would make a good choice for street photographers, don't let the Yashica T4's simple looks lead you into thinking that it won't allow you to take impressive snapshots!

Also called Kyocera Slim T, the Yashica T4 was introduced by Kyocera Corporation in 1990 and manufactured for the Yashica brand. It sports a handy and slim design typical among 35mm compact cameras during the 1990s, but what makes this camera a star among snapshooters and street photographers is its high-quality 35mm f/3.5 multi-coated lens.

Technical Specifications:

  • Autofocus
  • Lens: Carl Zeiss Tessar 35mm, f/3.5 lens, 4 elements in 3 groups, T* (multicoated).
  • Auto-exposure
  • Integrated flash
  • Programmed shutter: 1s-1/700s
  • Exposure range: EV 3,5-EV 17 (ISO 100)
  • Film speed: DX coded ISO 50-ISO 3200
  • *Active AF, 3-point infrared
  • Battery: CR123A
  • Measurements: 116,5 × 63,5 × 37 mm, 170 g

Perhaps, no other photographer is best known to shoot with this compact camera other than American portrait and fashion photographer Terry Richardson. Watch him shoot and describe what it’s like to work with the Yashica T4 in the clip below!
