LomoChrome Purple 120 or How do I Explain to my Nephews They Came Out Looking Purple?

Using my first LomoChrome roll has been a real adventure! Even though I've read a bunch of reviews on the Magazine, I wasn't 100% sure of what I was going to achieve...

The first thing I liked about the LomoChrome Purple XR 100-400 120 (besides the obvious purple color) is that this is an XR ISO film. This means you can shoot it at different ISO settings that go from ISO 100 to ISO 400. So besides giving you strong purple tones, this roll also let’s you play around and set your imagination free.

One thing that makes using this film really easy is the fact that you don’t need any filter, like you do with infrared film. That means one less thing to worry about.

I recommend that you test it out using a camera like the Belair since you can set the ISO and the camera will automatically set the shooting speed depending on the available light to help you get the best results. I played around a bit with the ISOs to see what I would get as a result.I used 100, 200 and 400 depending on the light at the time i was shooting and i also tried shooting in three different type of scenarios to see how the film would respond:

Midday with a whole bunch of sunlight:

Softer light during the afternoon:

Low light at dusk:

What I discovered is that the shots that I liked the most are the ones with a warmer light, like in the afternoon or at dusk. The purple becomes way more intense, but it also helps if you have lots on green in your shot, since that turns purple

Another thing I could see after I scanned is that yellow becomes pink:

On the other hand things that are blue like the sky become greenish:

I’m sure we’ll keep on discovering great new stuff as the community members keep using this amazing film. For now I only have one roll left stored as a treasure in my fridge so we’ll have to wait for more results from my part…
