Singapore's BricksBen Customises the Lomography Konstruktor

Singapore's BricksBen Creations got in touch with us to customise the Lomography Konstruktor. We anticipated one funky Konstruktor from these master builders but not two! After the jump, BricksBen will show us buzzing Konstruktor customisations fashioned out of LEGO bricks and the inspiration behind their creations!

We were thrilled to have the chance to customise the latest DIY camera from Lomography.

How could we convey the magic of analog photography with LEGO parts?

We thought we’d do two versions – one with the original Konstruktor, customised with LEGO parts, and one that’s a full LEGO rendition of this camera!

For our customised Konstruktor, since shooting with film is like rediscovering the lost joys of childhood, we thought of milk – the liquid goodness that we used to drink a lot when we were little.

So we set about to make it really special, with horns and all! We opted for a classic black-and-white look, as it represents the good old days when things were so much simpler. We used tiles and curved parts for a smooth look that mirrors the smooth taste of fresh milk.

All the parts were glued in position with ABS cement. This solvent dries fast and sets permanently, so we had to make sure to get it right the first time.

For our brick Konstruktor, we thought we’d pay tribute to one of our fave characters – Bumblebee from Transformers! So we used a black-and-yellow scheme and made sure we had his signature blue eye for the lens.

We were able to recreate the internal flaps and hinges while keeping our brick version as true to scale as possible. We were particularly pleased with the flaps, which took quite a while to get right, as well as the lens, which had a nice chunky feel that befits a true Autobot.

Thank you Lomography for inviting BricksBen to go wild with your latest classic! We hope we did justice to your Konstruktor. Cheers!

Thank you BricksBen!
