Almost four decades ago, if you wanted to learn the ropes of photography, one of your camera options is a basic 35 mm SLR camera manufactured by Pentax: the K1000.

This affordable SLR camera had everything the amateur photographer needs; it was fully mechanical, had manual controls, a TTL metering system, shutter speeds from 1/1000 to 1 second, and compatibility with all available K-mount lenses. Noted for its exceptional longevity, Pentax manufactured this basic yet workhorse of a camera from 1976 to 1997, with over three million units sold.

Exposure Meter: CdS meter measures the average brightness of the ground glass at full aperture, and couples directly to the aperture, shutter, and film speed settings. Zero-method exposure control. Film speed from 20 to 3200 ASA. EV 3 - 18 with ASA 100 films. Powered with one 1.5V alkaline (LR44) or silver oxide (G13) battery. Built-in photoswitch.

    I love my K1000's too,
    and very often when I am taking pictures with K1000 somebody approach me saying "Oh! it was my favorite camera for many years!"
    It still is for me.
