The Ridiculously Red World of Fuji Astia

When I first tried out Fuji Astia, I had no idea what to expect. Little did I know that I was in for the bloodiest looking photos you can imagine!

Some films are like a box of chocolates – you never know what you’re going to get. As cliche as it may sound, some films really do hold surprises. You never know if you’re going to get an explosion of yellows, or if an eerie green glow will be dominant in your photos.

This fact does not hold true for the Fuji Astia, however. All you’re going to get are reds. LOTS OF IT.

While of course nothing is absolute, I can confidently state that at least 90% of your shots using Fuji Astia will give reds. These are not red hues similar to a redscale roll, but rather big, bold, blood red colors. This sounds bad, as there’s no variety involved but as long as you’re expecting the red tones, you can tailor your shots to fit and even accentuate the subjects.

One of the best subjects that’s good on red are run-down and abandoned places. It gives off a post-apocalyptic vibe that just looks awesome. Ominous red clouds looming in the horizon? Astia has that covered. All that’s missing are zombies looking for brains.

Things doesn’t have to take a turn for the worse just for you to enjoy this particular emulsion. It is an incredible film, whose lack of color versatility is matched by its power to pack a punch and knock you out with its boldness. Who needs filters or forcefully shooting 2 stops over with a redscale roll just to get a red photo fix? All you need is Fuji Astia. Better hurry though, as this has been discontinued already!
