First manufactured from 1966 to 1971 by Rollei in Germany, the Rollei 35 has remained an iconic camera and a favorite of film photography enthusiasts for being one of the smallest full frame cameras ever made. The Rollei 35 was designed by Heinz Waaske for Rollei, and was manufactured in Germany from 1966 to 1971, then in Singapore afterwards. It was presented as Rollei’s first 35mm viewfinder camera during the 1966 International Photokina in Cologne, Germany alongside the camera maker’s first medium format SLR, the Rolleiflex SL66.
The Rollei 35 remains an important and iconic camera for being one of the smallest full-frame cameras ever made, weighing only 370 grams and measuring 97 × 32 × 60mm. This compact shooter, once billed as the world’s smallest 35mm precision camera, continues to be one of the most successful cameras in history. It is still being manufactured to this day by DHW Fototechnikas in small batches.
