Lomography Smartphone Film Scanner: Simple and Fast!

I've been lucky enough to test the new Lomography Smartphone FIlm Scanner and here are some of my results.

The Lomography Smartphone FIlm Scanner has proven itself as a great accessory to take the hassle away from scanning on a flatbed scanner. I like the fact that the whole process is really simple and incredibly fast when you compare it to scanning on a flatbed, specially when it comes to those 144 frames on your LomoKino movies…

Let’s take it step by step shall we? The scanner is not only easy to use, but it’s components are pretty simple to put together also. You basically have three stackable units that help your smartphone focus, a top part that functions as a grip, pretty much the same as the LomoKino Smart Phone Holder that let’s you snuggly fit your phone (in my case an iPhone 4s) so you can take pictures of the negatives.

On the base you’ll find small wheel that you can turn to help the negative go through the backlight, the great part is you can go forward or back very smoothly. The back light uses 2 AA batteries (pretty standard and easy to get) that go inside a tiny hatch on the top part of the base. You’ll also find a mask to use when scanning LomoKino frames.

I’ve tested out the Lomography Smartphone FIlm Scanner with several types of film to see different results:

Lomography Color Negative 400 ISO

Lomography Lady Grey B&W 400

Lomography X-Pro 200 ISO

I also managed to retrieve some old negatives from friends and family:

After several days of using the Lomography Smartphone FIlm Scanner, I have to say my favorite part is scanning those 144 LomoKino frames. I have to agree it can be a real hassle going through each and everyone, so I had high hopes this would be a good alternative and it turned out to be a great one.

And I love your LomoKino movies :) So painful scanning the frames in the pre-App era?

@vgzalez thanks, yep scanning LomoKino frames can be a nightmare, but the film scanner scanner does a pretty nice job in half the time :)
