Ricoh Myport Zoom Mini: An Impressive Compact Camera

The Ricoh Myport Zoom Mini is an impressive compact camera that combines good design, reasonable functionality, and cool features that will cater to your creative needs.

I recently acquired a compact point and shoot camera, the Ricoh Myport Zoom Mini. Judging from the information I got from Google, it seems to be relatively unknown. It somehow came as a surprise for me because I feel that it can really compete well with the more popular compact cameras such as the Konica Big Mini or the Olympus mju. Let me share with you the things I like about this camera.

I like its built; it’s very compact and can easily fit your pocket. When not zoomed, its maximum aperture is at f3.5. It is not that fast for a lens, but it is acceptable and highly functional for a variety of light conditions. Its can zoom from 38mm to 60mm. Unlike other compact cameras that go as far as 180mm, the extension of the lens at 60mm it not that awkward.

At 60mm you still have a maximum aperture of f4. One thing I like about this is that you can stay far form a subject and still capture a tight frame. Here are sample photos of subjects on the ground floor, taken from the 2nd floor.

It can also take pseudo-panoramic shots. It works best for landscapes, but can also be used for other types of subjects.

Its built-in flash is also very useful

One of the best features of this camera is the “continuous” mode. Press and hold the shutter, and it will continuously take photos. Below are sample of movie-like series of photos taken by this camera.

Overall, the Ricoh Myport Zoom Mini is very reliable, handy and is packed with cool features that will cater to your creative needs.

Great review, excellent compact! The "continuous" mode almost functions like a supersampler or a mini Lomokino, awesome!
