Lomography Color X-pro Sunset Strip: for Sunny Outdoors, or Indoor Flash?

My thoughts on the Sunset Strip cross processed, after using it outdoors on a sunny day, and indoors with flash! Grainy? Check. Warm? Perhaps. Cool? Perhaps. Unpredictable? Check!

The two adjectives I’ve heard most about this film from reviews and fellow Lomographers – warm, and grainy. After shooting a few rolls of the Sunset Strip, I definitely agree with the latter – it is indeed a grainy film. Grainy’s not all bad though, there were some shots that I really love.

However, my second adjective for the Sunset Strip would be “unpredictable” – sometimes warm, sometimes cool, and I’ve learnt that lighting can really swing the effects of the film on the extreme.

The shots below were taken outdoors on a sunny day at the beach – can never go wrong with sunny natural light.

These shots were taken indoors. I’ll share two sets – the first with adequate flash.

And this set, notice how grainy it is when slightly underexposed, wish I shot with more light.

My personal preference? I’ll bring this film with me if I know the sun’s gonna be out, and probably will not shoot much indoor shots with this because of how unpredictable it is. I love the Lomo X-Pro Chrome with indoor flash and I suppose I’ve set my expectations based on how well those shots with the Chrome had turned out. Unless I’m in the mood for extreme surprises, it’ll be Sunset Strip with sun!

(Outdoor shots were taken with the LC-A+, indoor shots with the La Sardina with Fritz the Blitz, and a Nikon L35AD.)

I like the beach shots. I'm thinking of getting this for my upcoming beach holiday however I intend to use CN 100, Xpro Color Slide 200 ISO as well. Not sure how this will turn out on La Sardina as I noticed it is usually grainy even with sunlight. I like the results of Xpro Chrome 100 to that extent.
