A True Hidden Gem: Kodak Pro Image/ Pro Foto 100 (35mm)

Kodak may be at the point of bankruptcy, but that isn't stopping them from producing amazing emulsions. Kodak Pro Image 100 is certainly no exception

Right now, Kodak is facing a major financial problem and has resorted to selling off rights to different companies. A midst all this chaos, they still managed to release new films and updated emulsions such as Ektar 100 and Portra 160, Pro Image 100 being one of them. I just recently found this film and had to do a bit of “research” on it since I’ve never heard anything about it. Apparently Kodak Pro Image (or Pro Foto in other places) is a revision of Kodak Gold. Released sometime near 1997, Kodak has updated it’s mix sometime this year (correct me if I’m wrong). So, knowing the superb quality that Gold gives, I had to try it out. I bought 5 rolls and I’m glad I did.

Compared to Kodak Gold, the colours are much more blown out, the grain is finer (although I can’t appreciate this much since I have a sh** scanner) the image is sharper and details are much more refined. This even works fine in low light, despite it being only 100 ISO

But, like all “slow” or “medium” speed films, expect to get great results in au naturale sunlight

Kodak Pro Image, although rather hard to find, is an amazing negative that gives great results and is budget friendly so your wallet won’t be jumping off a cliff anytime soon

it is really a good film, so much in fact that is very flexible in pushing and pulling, at iso 200 the colors remain, and at 50 really maintains the same quality, thanks for the article. LOMO ON!

This is one of my favourite films too! Wasn't expecting much from it when I first tried it but now it's my go-to color negative film! http://www.lomograph(…)os/15716450
