Horizon Perfekt: A Camera also Perfect for Vertical View Shoots

As a human, I also have a lot of demand for my panoramic camera. Many times I want to shoot my object horizontally and vertically wide. But it's a camera, we can't take a whole shot of an object because our point of view is limited and the view is limitless.

When my dad asked me to take a photo of my paternal family when we were visiting my grandfather’s hometown for the first time, through my Holga 135BC viewfinder I realized that I really need a panoramic camera. So I broke my savings account and bought Lomography Horizon Perfekt camera from the Lomography Embasy Store in Indonesia.

It’s the most expensive camera I ever bought. Even my dad show his dislike because he thought that an analogue camera should be more cheaper than digital =p But I don’t care because what I care about now is just go everywhere, self or group Lomowalk, and shoot with my Erika (haha, this is the first time I named my Horizon Perfekt camera, her name is taken from my fave musician, Erika Spring Forster ‘Au Revoir Simone’ _).

At the first half year, I mistakenly set the normal mode/bulb mode on this camera. The manual book said that yellow dot is bulb mode and white dot is normal mode. I thought when I want normal mode, I move the arrow button to the white dot which is incorrect. Thanks to Adi and Marko who taught me if I want to shoot with the normal mode, I should move the arrow button to the yellow dot and then when the white dot appears, it is the normal mode. Quite strange because when we want some options, we direct the arrow button to the option logo, but that’s how it works differently =).

Aperture and shutter speed are also the features of the camera that I still learn from until now. If you usually shoot with a manual aperture and shutter speed camera, you must be not be strange with it, but if you’re not usually shooting with a manual camera like me you’ll be dizzy. =) Keep shooting with a variety of aperture and shutter speeds at a variety of weather conditions so you can improve your panoramic shoot results.

It’s quite easy if the sun shining brightly or if your object have good lighting, just shoot between 16,11 and 8 aperture. But if it’s dark cloud, I still search how to shoot at that underexposure condition, maybe using additional light? I don’t know.

And one thing’s for sure, this panoramicool camera is also best shot at a night shoot. Just find your object and with a little help from the lamp you will get a satisfactory result. =) It’s just like the rule said, Use it day and night.

Think panoramic think wide. But it’s very human when we shoot with the vertical position after we get quite bored with the horizontal frame position. Voila, I found that shooting vertically with a panoramic camera brings a new view.

But there is something that I forget when shooting vertically with a panoramic camera – the horizontal view becomes smaller than when we shoot it horizontally, so it’s not quite right to shoot vertically if I want a panoramic horizontal view.

MX (multiple exposure) option is also a crucial option for me because I love mx. My Horizon Perfekt doesn’t have it but it didn’t break my spirit to do mx. Just do it traditionally. Shoot the first frame until the end of the film and roll it, then put the film in again and shoot again and again. =)

Just like any other Lomography camera, Horizon Perfekt also perfect for documenting memorable events in our life. Just like when my cousins get married, I shot the ceremony a lot, and my cousins and his wife chose this as their photo profile on facebook.
