This accessory is capable of giving you a very intimate experience when you watch your LomoKino movies, but there’s so much more to this nifty little viewer. Read more after the jump.
The LomoKinoscope is one of those accessories that at first don’t grab your attention, but when you try it, you’ll definitely fall in love with it! The LomoKinoscope is designed based on its big brother, the LomoKino. It comes all in black, works mechanically with a lever, opens up to load your movie, a small window for the light to come in and has a very comfortable viewer so you can enjoy your movies or show them to your friends.
But let’s go into the details since that’s where the LomoKinoscope is able to show its true and amazing potential.
The first thing I like the most about this accessory is the fact that you can view your movies in motion right after you have developed them without having to scan them! This is a big plus because scanning takes a lot of time (if you’ve done it you know what I’m talking about), so if you’re eager to know if the result of your movie was what you expected, this is exactly what you were looking for.
So when you have your movie ready to view, you sit down, relax, take a deep breath and start cranking away, you can see before your eyes your very own analogue masterpiece, that experience, that intimate experience with what you’ve just created is simply priceless! I like to think of it as my private mini screening room…
But before you can actually watch your movie you have to load it on the LomoKinoscope, a process that at first might seem a bit complicated, when you get the hang of it, you’ll discover is actually very simple.
The LomoKinoscope has two main parts: On the back you will find a small rectangular white window, this is where the light comes in so you can actually see you movie through the scope. I advise you to have the light source you are using, (either sun or a lamp) come in bounced from a darker surface such as a table or a couch, because if the light comes in straight everything will look way to white.
On the front, you have a pretty big scope covered with a plastic ring that will making easy on your eye when you get it close up to watch. You have to get in real close so your eye can see the whole span of the negative inside and you can enjoy your movie.
On one side of the LomoKinoscope you’ll find a tiny lever, this little guy is what makes the movie magic come to life. Just remember to always crank counterclockwise to view your movie correctly.
By now you must be wondering, okay, but do I actually load the film? Well my friend, here’s where the fun part starts. On both sides of the LomoKinoscope you’ll find two small buttons that have to be pressed at the same time to open it up and start loading you film.
Once you’ve managed to open it up, on the back part (the one with the little white window) you’ll find a small container, this is where you’ll load your movie.
Get it out, open it and inside you’ll find an empty spool. This is where you will wind up you movie before putting it back in to view. You’ll want to be very careful with your uncut negative (I suggest you wear gloves to avoid smudges all over your movie) while you wind it up and put it back in the container and back again on the LomoKinoscope
Once you load the container back in, pull a small bit of the end of the movie, and load it (as in your camera) using the sprockets to fix it on the other spool so it will wind when you crank the lever.
And that’s pretty much it; you’re ready to enjoy your analogue cinema at its best!
Don’t wait any longer, get your own LomoKinoscope and start enjoying your movies on a whole new way.
