Unboxing

I was very excited to lay my hands on this camera. It merely took 2 days to reach my doorstep. I excitedly opened up the couriers’s packaging and was very impressed by its red box! It looked so nice and made you want to touch more! Well, the excitement does not end there until I opened up the box. Ooh lala… I took awhile to look at the “scenery” in the box before my hands pulled everything out. Inside the box, there were the camera with hand strap, medal, hard cover book, manual, and batteries. Overall, I was quite impressed by the packaging.

First impression

The moment I picked up the camera. I immediately fell in love with the weight and the texture. I’m the person who likes to meddle without reading the manual first. So, I began to turn the advance wheel. It was smooth and effortless. I was holding it for an hour and wouldn’t want to put down my new gem.

In the field

The loading of the film was pretty standard, not rocket science. The indicating lights in the viewfinder was useful and the glass was bright. The tightness of the focusing lever was just nice to prevent incidental adjustment and easy to move it too.

This camera comes with built-in light meter which will give correct exposure. So far I’m impressed by how it managed it and pretty accurate most of the time. The light meter also measure by considering the ASA value of the film loaded in the camera. There is a wheel beside the light meter to set the ASA value. Pretty easy.

The Minitar 1 lens has f2.8 aperture which is quite useful in low light situation. It’s focal length is 32mm, sits in between 28mm and 35mm which is ideal to shoot street, landscape, close up portraits basically it fulfils most of the shooting situations.

The shutter button was very responsive and did not jam during the first outdoor shoot with 3 rolls of films.

Returned from the Lab

To be honest, I really like the photographs. This little camera really can do wonders and give me lots of surprises.

Overall experience

I like all the features on this camera, especially that I could change my focusing distance without looking at it, good for quick response to interesting moments. The lens made by Russian was good and colour rendition was excellent. Final words: I’m bringing this camera with me wherever I go from now on!
