The Wide Wide World of Diana

Capture the world in a wider way with Diana's wonderful 55mm Wide-Angle lens and then get up close and personal with her close-up adaptor!

Time for a shocking admission. Are you ready?

I don’t like the original Diana lens.

There, I’ve said it. The Diana, the classic camera, a genre-defining piece of equipment, is loved by thousands at least (probably millions) and the main reason for that admiration is the lens. The distinctive vignetting has a lot to do with this love and yet I, I’m afraid to say, just don’t like it. I’ve tried but I just can’t get on with it.

Fear not, however, because if you too aren’t satisfied with the standard Diana lens there are a few alternatives, and this review deals with one of them: the Diana+ 55mm Wide-Angle and Close-Up lens.

Easy to fit, like all Diana lenses, the main part of this is the 55mm Wide-Angle lens. Snap it onto the camera and fit the supplied viewfinder over the original Diana viewfinder and you’re ready to shoot. As the name implies, the image captured is wider than the usual lens and is great for taking breathtaking landscape scenes.

Don’t be afraid to use it as just your regular lens for regular shooting either, it’s fine for that too, especially if you prefer capturing more of the general scene. I’ve also found it works well when on portraits, setting the subject in the middle of the shot whilst still having a lot of contextual space around them. I really should do more portrait shots actually!

Now, another small admission: I haven’t actually used the Close-Up lens yet! It’s easy to fit, you just clip it on over the top of the 55mm lens but as yet I’ve not had the opportunity to try it out. It works on subjects at a distance of around 15cm so I better get my tape measure out and get looking for interesting things to shoot!

Overall though, despite me not using the Close-Up lens, I’m delighted with this accessory and would highly recommend it to all Diana users.

You can now get wide and up-close with this special set of lenses made especially for your Diana + or Diana F+ camera. The Diana+ 55mm Wide-Angle & Close Up Lenses make your images drip with color, with an extra kick of contrast and saturation. Get your own Diana+ 55mm Wide-Angle & Close-Up Lenses now!
