Oh No, Not Another LC-Wide Review!

Since the LC-Wide's release in May last year there's been some 25+ reviews. So what's left to say? Well, nothing really other than to share my appreciation too!

In the days leading up to the launch of the LC-Wide, Lomography was posting all the little teasers revealing snippets of their latest invention, and I have to say, at first, I wasn’t all that interested. Surely, no camera could live up to my faithful Lomo LC-A+! But it soon became clear that the design was based upon that very camera, with added bonuses of different shooting modes and a super wide 17mm lens! The day it was launched I saw the sample photos on the microsite and I knew I had to get one.

If you’ve ever loved the LC-A then the LC-Wide won’t disappoint you. It feels, looks, and sounds exactly the same as its big brother. Probably, the biggest bonus for me is there are just 2 zone focus points as apposed to the LC-A’s 4. This means even less time wasted before taking your shot. If you’re close up, push the focus lever up, if you’re not, push it down. Easy.

The shooting modes also give you even more creative options. You can select your mode upfront by inserting the correct mask, or you can simply forget all about the mask and shoot different modes on the same film and create an endless panoramic. I personally really like half frame mode, I’m not sure I’ll ever really use the square frame mode, I’ll leave squares for my Dianas and Holgas, but I do tend to shoot a few frames set to square mode without the mask which gives a black fade out at each side of the frame.

The only downside to the camera for me is getting to the ISO dial — it’s really quite fiddly unless you have long girly nails or insanely spiky fingers. I like to flick between different ISOs if I decide to shoot a double exposure and it does get a tiny bit annoying turning the wheel. Or maybe I just need to stop biting my nails?

Long live the LC-WIDE!
