Fuji Instax Wide is Delicious!

After Polaroid, Fuji Instax has been an industry standard instant film for over 20 years. This integral film comes in cartridges of ten exposures and is more consistant, simpler and sharper than Impossible Project's offerings. Here we examine the excellent colour reproduction, the sharpness of the image, and look at the ease of use.

Fujifilm developed the Instax line in the ’90’s in order to compete with Polaroid. Polaroid held so many patents on instant integral film that several States in the USA were unable to sell Instax due to the legal complexities.

I was skeptical of Instax since I’d shot several lots of Impossible Films and been really impressed. I think where I would say Instax shines is for nights out or parties. People are delighted at having their photograph taken and watching the image appear. The film is far easier to use than Impossible stock. If you’re starting out in instant photography or don’t want ot spend £20 for eight exposures, then this is your guy! It takes about five seconds at most for the image to appear once taken — there’s no shielding from light or taping up darkslides necessary.

As you can see from the photographs above, the colours pop without becoming unatural and the images are extremely sharp, especially at longer focal lengths.

I’ve found various places sellling it at widely ranging prices so it really does pay to shop around. I usually buy the double pack which nets me twenty exposures over two cartridges for a meager £11.49 as of 21/02/2012!

The pictures come out 6cm by 10cm and has a white strip at the bottom if you want to write the date, names or phone numbers etc.

The Fuji Instax 210 Wide is your jumbo-bodied buddy for super-wide instant pictures. Your photos give off that nice retro-coloured finish, and its built-in flash makes it great for parties and nighttime, and indoor shots. Check it out with the rest of our Instant cameras here!
