When I got my Horizon Kompakt, "Lomography" was still unknown term for me. I bought him from my friend who was interested mostly in digital photography, so Horizon was lonely, "unemployed," and of unknown origin when I first saw him.
I keep on saying “him”, because it just feels wrong to say “it.” This camera has such a strong character and persistence, that saying “it” would sound almost inappropriate. I love the way he looks. He’s quite a charmer and loves attention too. And when I say that he is persistent, I really mean it. I managed to load film incorrectly twice and he still delivered wonderful results. I dropped him really badly once and he is still working without complaints.
I love the way he sounds. You’ve heard the saying “women love with their ears.” I can tell you now, it is true. The first time I heard him, I smiled. After one year, he still makes my heart beat faster.
The Horizon Kompakt has a great sharp lens, doesn’t need batteries, uses 35mm films and has a fixed f/8 aperture. Let’s not forget that he is capable of making double exposures and shooting at day or night. It’s always a pleasure working with him.
Horizon Kompakt is a great companion, but if you really want take him everywhere, it’s better to get a proper bag to keep him safe and sound.
