Kodak Elitechrome EB (ISO 100, 35mm) Cross-Processed

When it comes to cross-processing slide film, Kodak Elitechrome is my number 1 choice.

Whenever I want to have some slide film cross-processed, I pretty much always use Kodak Elitechrome 100 film. Not only does it yield for typical x-pro colors, but, just as importantly, it’s also readily available at reasonable prices.

I recommend using this film on bright sunny days. On cloudy days, the results are okay, but in sunny weather with blue skies, the colors will come out way better. It’s 100 ISO film which means that it needs lots of light. Being a slide film, it’s not very tolerant towards over or under exposure. When used in insufficient lighting, contrast is low and the color shifts are somewhat disappointing.

In ideal conditions, however, this film will surprise you with poppy contrast and nice color shifts. I particularly like the way it brings out the blue tones. Generally, I find that cross-processing Kodak Elitechrome EB will lead to warmer colors, sometimes there is a noticeable yellow or greenish tinge. In some pictures there is a fair amount of grain which I like as it adds to the analogue feel.

If you’re looking for the extra punch of saturation and even poppier colors, also have a look at Kodak Elitechrome EBX (Extra Color). Personally I find that Elitechrome EB is perfectly satisfactory for most occasions.
