Digitalize Your Sprockets with the DigitaLIZA 135 Film Scanning Mask!

The DigitaLIZA sure is a neat little accessory and a must-have for the sprocket lovers.

The sprockets are the holes on the edges of the film which winds the film on correctly. With the help of Lomography’s creative ideas, the sprockets are now extra space to put just a bit more of the picture on! Spinner 360, Sprocket Rocket, pick your mate and get going!

Using the DigitaLIZA 35mm Scanning Mask is simple as anything!

Put it on a flat, CLEAN surface. Take the handle off and open it up. Make sure the metal bit is aligned up with the bottom of the DigitaLIZA. Put down your negative straight and nice on the metal bit. Once you’re satisfied with that, put the handle back on correctly (easy-peasy, really) over the metal bit and the negative. Clamp the holder shut and then remove handle, and the metal bit will come off too.

Insert into your scanner and enjoy your sprockets! :)

It will hold 2 Sprocket Rocket images at the same time, and therefore, presumably, 1 Spinner 360 image.

It should be noted that the DigitaLIZA is NOT best friends with the CanoScan software for the Canon scanners, at least not with my 8400F. I don’t know about the later versions but I think it’s the same thing. It does, however, work with SilverFast, just remember to turn off IR dust scanning and scratch removal. That made my scanner go crazy, and it never saved a picture and took forever and just did not work.

One thing I would have liked to have seen is the inner edge of the scanning mask to be in transparent plastic, or glass, or something see-through, because the DigitaLIZA will take away a few millimeters of the edge of the negative, to hold it in place. Which is a slight bummer. I hope that LSI, if they plan on improving the DigitaLIZA further — do something about that because that would have made this 100% amazing. It’s still cool though and if you know you will be scanning lots and lots of sprockets and want the sprockets, and can’t argue with your local lab about how they need to scan and understand – then this is the choice for you!
