So, I grabbed my tools and tried to fix the Smena. Smena 8M was my first Lomographic camera and I still love it like in the first day.
The Lomo Smena 8M was my first Lomographic camera. I bought it on an auction site called “Miau”, it costs €20.
When I handled the Smena 8M for the first time I felt a great joy, but when I checked it, I was very disappointed. So I grabbed my tools and tried to fix the Smena, and I repaired it! Since that day, the Smena 8M became special!
How the Smena 8M works is very simple:
From 1m to infinity, you don’t need to do that meter guesswork, you can use the little icons.
- Single person
From f/4 to f/16 you will find the aperture ring of Smena 8M around the lens. As you know, each aperture setting is a corresponding film speed. In Smena 8M, it is expressed in GOST system.
- f/4-GOST 16 = ASA 25
- f/5,6-GOST 32 = ASA 50
- f/8-GOST 64 = ASA 100
- f/11-GOST 125 = ASA 200
- f/16-GOST 200 = ASA 400
Again the little icons will help, they mach like this:
- Full sun
- 1/250 sec.
- Partial sun
- 1/125 sec.
- Partial cloud
- 1/60 sec.
- Full cloud
- 1/30 sec.
- Rain cloud
- 1/15 sec.
- No icon
-- “B” setting
Just set the shutter cock without advancing to the next frame .
The Smena 8M does not have a hot shoe, so you will need an old school manual flash with a PC wire.
