My First Ever Slide Film

With the Diana Mini "Love is in the Air" I also got my first ever role of slide film, the Lomography X-Pro 200 for 35mm and decided to cross process it. Different weather conditions gave me a great first impression of this very interesting film.

I’m still pretty new to Lomography and to going back to analogue films – I started out with the Diana F+ but when I saw the Love is in the Air Special Edition of the Diana Mini, I just had to have it. For my first film I decided to load the Lomography X-Pro Slide 200 since I had never shot a slide film before.

The first day I photographed the weather was pretty cloudy – not really ideal for an ISO 200 film but I thought I’d try it anyway. However, the results came out pretty good, although there is relatively strong noise in some of the photos (which I like, though). Most of the photos from that day have a blue or green tint, which is what I was expecting from cross processing my film.

After walking around for a while, I realized that I had set my camera to the sunny setting, although it was pretty cloudy. Since I was walking back the same way, I decided to take a second set of similar photos with the switch set to cloudy. The colors became less saturated but also got a lighter cross-balancing tint with less yellow and blue colors.

A few days later I had the opportunity to take some shots again and that time the sun was shining. The resulting photos have a much different look to them: they took a turn towards warm yellow, orange and red tones, making them super warm in their feel.

Additionally, I got some surprise shots from my first tries with the camera and film in my (badly lit) bathroom – it was way to dark but still I got some results but with so much noise that it’s more a pointilism artwork than a regular photo.

Overall, I really, really like the results and cannot wait to shoot the two other rolls of the film that came in the package. It will also be interesting to see what the results will look like when the film is not cross processed.
