Ektar: the New Kid on the Block

Admits the chants of " Film is Dead" from digital user and critics. Kodak a major player in the film industry launched a brand new 35mm negative film in September 2008. Kodak Professional EKTAR 100 which claims to be the finest-Grain Color Negative Film with high saturation and vivid colors. This is my review.

Its been awhile since i shot negatives, slide film have been dominating my life since I first tried it. Went to the local film lab and ask the uncle what was new and he introduced me to Kodak Ektar 100 and told me to give it a try.

Loaded the film in my Nikon FM2 and the pictures that came out was worth the steep price of the film. Kodak Ektar is an iso 100 negative film, it is the world’s finest grain color negative film and it is also the first film to bridge the gap between analog and digital as it is Ideal for scanning, and offers extraordinary enlargement capability from a 35mm negative.

The dynamic range is pleasing and the colors are vibrant but not over the top. Grain is a bit more evident at 100%, but still incredibly smooth. Putting aside the technical aspects of grain, and latitude and stuff like that, Kodak Ektar has a very film-like presence and an overall glorious rendering of colors.

With film use now being a selective choice for photographers wanting to distance themselves from the dry bright sameness of digital photography, Kodak Ektar is a great film for new and season analog photographers.
