The most awesome medium speed monochrome film. Period.
Agfa APX 100 is for me the apex of medium speed monochrome emulsions. I hoard a rather large stock and only break some out for special projects. Expired or not, it always performs outstandingly. The tonality, sharpness and latitude are all fitting a professional monochrome film. Especially its superb rendition of skin tones has made it a standard for portraiture.
I personally prefer to develop it in Rodinal, either 1+50 (better results with slight “overexposure” at EI 80) or, if I have not been metering, @1+100 stand for 1 hour or 1+200 semi-stand for 2 hours.
There has been some critique as to whether the box speed is wrong and if it is not only 80 ISO, but it also depends a lot on your choice of developer. What matters is that APX 100 always delivers and you will have gorgeous negs to feed your hungry scanner, like I did after the following shoot.
If you haven’t tried out this legendary emulsion, do not hesitate. You do not know when its existence will be threatened again.
