Velvia 50: Of Saturated Colors & Painterly Shots

Fuji Velvia 50 is the first-ever slide film I bought, and after shooting a roll of it using my Holga CFN, I immediately got hooked. The vibrant colors and over-the-top saturation that it delivers are to die for!

Fuji Velvia 50 never fails to surprise and impress me. It can render vivid blues, yellows, and greens. Orange turns towards red. My shots sometimes get a bit pinkish. The color saturation is always unpredictable, that’s why I love it. The sharpness and quality of your shots depend on the contrast of light. You’ll never know what’s going to come out!

Since it only has a 50 iso, I only use it outdoors, specifically in capturing landscapes and skies. It seems to work fantastic in subjects with lots of colors like flowers or trees. If you’re into landscapes, you never go wrong with this film!

But what I like most about this film is that it’s able to produce hyper-saturated images that look like paintings! Velvia shots are always fancy, dramatic and more saturated than in real life.

Fuji Velvia 50 is a fantastic slide film to shoot. Go ahead and try a roll. It will surely become one of your favorite films in no time.
